About the Normaltown District Athens, GA

Normaltown neighbors Boulevard Historic District and surrounds the Navy Corps School, soon-to-be UGA Medical School. The heart of the community is a row of locally-owned shops, restaurants and boutiques along Prince Avenue. This area is a mixture of post-war brick bungalows, mill houses and some grand historic homes along Oglethorpe Ave.
While bordered by historic districts protected locally, this neighborhood is not presently protected locally. The area includes Buena Vista Heights Historic District, roughly bounded by Park Ave., Prince Ave., Pound St., and Nantahala Ave.

In recent years, Normaltown has become more of an in-demand location to buy homes or open shops. Many think of the area as a great investment because it is the home to UGA’s new Medical School and many homes are still reasonably priced. The neighborhood is also very walkable and very quaint. You can walk and grab coffee from Ike and Jane’s, a unique cocktail at Normal Bar or even household tools and products from Normal Hardware, a family-owned business operating since 1949.
